How we verify and compare protein bars
A bar is not published merely because a search result or package headline says “100 calories.” Every listing must pass an exact-SKU, per-bar review.
Inclusion criteria
We include packaged US-market products sold as distinct bar SKUs when the manufacturer presents them as protein bars, or when there is a credible protein-bar classification. Calories must be 100 or fewer per individual bar.
“Under 100 calories” means fewer than 100. Our main catalog includes the boundary value of exactly 100, while the strict under-100 filter excludes it.
Source priority
- A current Nutrition Facts panel for the exact SKU and size.
- The manufacturer’s official product details.
- A retailer label image or description as secondary corroboration.
If reliable sources conflict, we hold back the disputed metric or the entire listing until the conflict is resolved. Each published profile names its nutrition source and verification date.
Serving math and variants
A serving containing two bars is not automatically treated as a 100-calorie bar. We record bars per serving explicitly and review per-bar math. Mini, full-size, flavor, and reformulated variants are separate records when their nutrition differs.
Unknown values
Unknown sugar, fiber, sugar alcohol, ingredient, allergen, price, or package values are shown as “Not verified” or omitted. Unknown never means zero. Dietary labels appear only when supported by a manufacturer claim.
Comparison metrics
Protein per 100 calories is calculated as protein grams divided by calories per bar, multiplied by 100. Price per bar appears only when a current price and matching pack count were checked together. We do not present medical, therapeutic, or weight-loss conclusions.
Commercial independence
Retail relationships do not determine inclusion, ranking, or editorial conclusions. Affiliate links, if introduced after approval, are labeled and disclosed. See our affiliate disclosure.
Review cadence and corrections
Our target is to re-check the dataset at least quarterly and sooner when formulations change. To report a discrepancy, use the United Internet Ventures contact page and include the product, package size, source, and date observed.
